In some cases, municipal water is safe to drink. In a lot of cases, it is not. How is our tap water filtered? Most municipal tap water systems work the same way:

1) The water passes through a series of sand filters to remove particles.
2)Chlorine is added to kill bacteria.

The tap water filtration process is supposed to remove at least 99.9% of the cysts that may be present, but even the EPA reports the great majority of the tap water systems don’t actually test their water.

Not even your local municipal water company can filter 100% of these contaminants all the time. However, you can protect yourself by filtering all water from the tap. A house filter system, counter filter, shower filter, and a combination of portable water filters and water filter bottles can keep you safe from all the problems our water supply is facing every day.
