The Solution that Answers All Questions about water by interational Travelers

Monday, September 10th, 2007

International Travelers have been known to ask many of the questions you see below dealing with the water in destinations across the world.

What is a water-borne disease?

What does it mean safe water?

How safe is water worldwide?

What does it mean access to safe water and sanitation?

What is travelers’ diarrhea?

Who gets travelers’ diarrhea?

What causes travelers’ diarrhea?

What treatment measures are effective for travelers’ diarrhea?

Can I find out if tap water is safe to drink by tasting or smelling it?

How does a traveler know if tap water is safe to drink?

What is a drinking water standard?

Are all the contaminants equally harmful for travelers?

Who sets international drinking water standards?

What about edible ice cubes?

Can I disinfect ice cubes?

What is bottled water?

How I know if that bottled water is safe?

Where can I found the listing of certified bottled water?

What can I do if I need to use unsafe tap water?

How can I know what is risky to do, if tap water is not safe?

How can I prevent to get diseases in swimming pools and spas?

What about people with severely compromised immune system?

Are waterborne diseases the same in people with HIV/AIDS as in other people?

Which substances have to be identified when testing drinking water?

These questions are important but if you choose a biological filtration device for your international trip then these questions become irrelevant. You can have the confidence that the portable filtration device you purchased is going to keep you safe. There are many devices that can filter biological contaminants like bacteria, cysts, and protozoa. These products are PERFECT for international travel and emergency use. You no longer need to wonder about the quality of your drinking water. The important thing is to find one that works!

Brita Fill & Go Bottle

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Still looking for the Brita Fill & Go bottle? Have a bottle and need replacement filters? Unfortunatly, Brita has decided to discontinue the product even though it worked so well and was so popular! Why? Nobody knows the real reason, but the good news is there is a new product on the market! The full line of Pure Water 2GO portable water filters and bottle filters work better than the old Brita Bottles. The level 2 filters even remove dangerous chlorine and mercury and lead from your tap water. Even more exciting, Pure Water 2GO has a full line of emergency and biological filter products for use where you may not be able to find safe drinking water. Just dip the bottle into a lake or stream, and the patented sub micron biological filter actually makes the water safe to use!

Microbiological Water Poisoning

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Biological poisoning includes bacteria, of which E.coli is only one kind. It also includes parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia, which live in the intestines of humans and animals, and though they are not usually as deadly as E.coli, are harder to kill even with chlorine. Most microbiological hazards are short-term threats; you suffer the effects of the poisoned water quickly.

The best way to safegaurd yourself and your family from Microbiologically unsafe water is to use a water filter that can filter at the submicron level. These filters are available in many different styles, but the most convenient to use is the Biological Filter available in a handy Fitlered Water Bottle. Just fill it up, screw the cap on, and begin drinking clean, safe drinking water!

High-Risk Areas

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Generally speaking, these are some of the areas around the world where you should not drink the water without treatment (and the disease risks):

  • Indian Subcontinent
    Cholera, Salmonella, Hepatitis A & E, Amebiasis
  • Africa
    Salmonella, Hepatitis, Giardiasis, Amebiasis
  • Mexico, Central and South America
    Salmonella, Amebiasis, Giardiasis, Hepatitis
  • Russia and former USSR countries
    Giardiasis
  • Asia
    Cholera, Salmonella, Giardiasis

To be safe, water in these areas should always be treated, even in developed areas, with some type of approved biological  water filter or portable water filter product that is designed for removal of biological contaminants.

Water Filtration Devices for Travel Use

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Water filtration devices are one of the most economical answers for long-term travelers or groups. Those equipped with effective filters (.2 microns) remove all of the bacteria and parasites, and some of the viruses without changing the taste of the water, and without a waiting period. The filters are easily replaced and inexpensive, keeping the cost per gallon down. Filtration is a terrific solution for pregnant women or iodine sensitive individuals in areas where viral contamination is not a concern. It is also very effective for long-term use where prolonged, daily exposure to iodine may result into a health issue, provided that the user has been completely inoculated against local viruses.

Micro-biological filters are easy to find and when used in conjunction with a water bottle are simple to use. They will allow you to simply fill up and squeeze the water through the filter.

What Are the Risks?

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Undertreated water is a wonderful home for microorganisms such as viruses (polio, hepatitis), bacteria (cholera, salmonella, streptococcus), and parasites (Giardia Lamblia, Cryptosporidium). Exposure to these organisms can cause serious illness, and in some cases may be fatal.

These risks are avoidable when using the proper method of filtration. If you or someone you know travels internationally they need to look into a biological filter. The easiest to use are the filtered water bottles.

Filtered water bottles are great because you don’t make a scene and offend someone because your refusing to drink their water. They allow you to safely drink the water that you wouldn’t under normal circumstances.

Why Do We Need Water Purification?

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Whether at home or abroad, everyone needs clean, wholesome water every day (a good rule of thumb is at least 1/2 gallon of water per person per day). Many countries do not impose the same sanitation requirements on their water supply that we are accustomed to at home, resulting in serious health risks to the unwary traveler.

When at home use a low level filter for chlorine, bad taste and ordor removal, and maybe even find one that will filter heavy metals. However, if you are traveling abroad don’t risk your health use a high level biological water filter that will filter bacteria, cysts, and protozoa.

Filtering water doesn’t have to be a hassle, find a filter that is combined with a water bottle to simplify the process. These filtered water bottles are so easy cause you just fill them up, screw the cap on, and as you begin to drink it begins to filter! Your life doesn’t need any more complications so eliminate the risk by adding a filtered water bottle!

The health effects of Arsenic contaminated water…

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Arsenic has tremendous effects on the body. The National Academy of Sciences did a study in 1999, that discovered Arsenic contaminated water causes bladder, lung, and skin cancer, and may be the leading cause of kidney and liver cancer. It was also found to destroy the central and peripheral nervous systems, heart and blood vessels, and cause serious skin problems. Arsenic poisoning has been found to be a factor in many birth defects and reproductive problems.

You may think that your water is safe from Arsenic, but you will be surprised to find it in most U.S. water systems. You may check your local water quality report for information on contamination levels. It is as simple as filtering your water with filtered water bottles and/or a biological water filter to prevent your body from being exposed to it and the damage it causes.

Is Arsenic in your water?

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Arsenic is a grayish-white element having a metallic luster, vaporizing when heated, and forming poisonous compounds. Its symbol is ”AS.” Its atomic weight is “74.92″, and its atomic number is 33. In the heavy metal section of the periodic table, arsenic is found by more common dangerous elements such as lead and mercury.

The most common form found in drinking water is Arsenic Trioxide. Arsenic Trioxide is not only colorless, it is tasteless, amorphous, slightly water-soluble, and can be found in a poisonous powder. Its symbol is As2O3. The primary use is in manufacturing pigments, glass, and as an insecticide or weed-killer. It is also known as arsenic acid.

Unsafe levels of Arsenic have been found by the EPA to be in many water systems throughout the U.S. Water filters are recommended everywhere to insure safe water for drinking and showering. Specifically use a biological water filter or other personal water filters that are capable of filtering and absorbing metals out of the water.

Concerned about bacteria growing in water bottles? You shouldn’t be….

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

If you clean your plastic bottles after each time you use them, like you would for any other drinking container (i.e. drinking glasses, etc), then there will be no need for you to be concerned with bacteria. Plastics are by nature extremely sanitary materials, and plastic bottles are no more likely to grow bacteria than packaging or drinking containers. Bacteria growth occurs in warm, moist environments and can be found in any drinking container (coffee mugs, drinking glasses, serving pitchers, etc…).

To prevent bacteria growth in drinking containers always clean with hot soapy water and dry thoroughly between uses. Bottles like our filtered water bottles and portable water filters are designed with wide openings so that they allow the use of cleaning instruments and easy drying. The sanitation process for Biological Water Filters is a little different. Make sure you read the directions for use of these products.
