Dangers Showering in Unfiltered Water

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

You wouldn’t knowingly bathe in toxins every morning or set out to harm your lungs and sinuses, irritate your allergies and skin, or willingly increase your risk of cancer. But the fact is, chlorine and its by-products in your shower water are toxins which can damage your health.

Research indicates an increased risk for bladder and rectal cancer from drinking chlorinated water. And even though you’re not drinking water in the shower, you can absorb many times more chlorine in a shower than you do by drinking the same water! Tests show that your body can absorb more chlorine as a result of a 10-minute shower than if you drank eight glasses of the same water.

How can that be? A warm shower opens up your pores, causing your skin to act like a sponge. As a result, you not only inhale the chlorine vapors, you also absorb them through your skin, directly into your bloodstream-at a rate that’s up to six times higher than drinking.

Short term risks include skin, eye or sinus irritation in some people. Long term risks include oxidation (cell and tissue aging), hardened arteries, dry skin, increased risk of cancer, and hardened arteries. In addition, if you suffer from asthma or any other skin or respiratory problem, chlorinated water can make your condition worse:

The good news is that showering in chlorine-treated water is a risk you can erase immediately, through the use of a proper shower filter.

Tap Water Contaminated

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Knowing what is in your tap water might make you stop and think: “should I be drinking this?”

Is tap water really safe to drink?  There are all kinds of contaminates in tap water from parasites, viruses, to even lead and other heavy metals.  Drinking water that is contaminated can be very harmful to the body.  With water serving as a conduit for contaminated tap water it can cause reproductive dysfunction, kidney problems, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and fetal, neurological and brain damage. An alternative to drinking tap water is getting filtered water bottle.  The bottles filters the tap water so the water is safe to drink and the water doesn’t damage the body.  The filtered bottle can be used on the go when you are not at home.  So when taking road trips, to fishing, or even to the park you can take the bottle with you and not worry about damaging the body while drinking water.

Water in Other Countries

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

After reading this you’ll think twice before drinking water when in another country.   Did you know?

  • Every 8 seconds a child dies from a water-related disease
  • 50% of people in developing countries suffer from one or more water related disease
  • 80% of these diseases in the developing countries are caused by contaminated water
  • 50% of people on Earth lack adequate sanitation
  • 20% of freshwater fish species have been pushed to the edge of extinction by contaminated water.

So next time before you go on that trip just reading these facts I would make sure to bring my own water.  Bring a filtered water bottle, just to be on the safe side I wouldn’t want to be in those statistics.

Eliminating Bottled Water Can REALLY Save You Money!

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

A year ago, if someone were to ask me how much I spent a week on bottled water it would have been between $50-60. That doesn’t sound like a lot but when you multiply that by 52 weeks a year your looking at between $2600-3120 a year. That is a lot of money!

Now I am able to save that $3000 thanks to the filtered water bottle I use daily! I can’t tell you how convenient it is to fill up the bottle from any water source and not worry about how the water tastes or smells. It so affordable!! The filters cost less than 7 dollars, and I get about 3 months of usage out of a single filter. Water Filters really are a perfect way to get clean drinking water at an affordable price.

I love my water filter bottle, and I am sure you will too! So quit burning your money!

Tap Water and Bottled Water the Same

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Bottled water and tap water where tested to see if one was healthier than the other.  The results came out: Bottled water and tap water are the same, and there were no differences according to the microbiologist that did the test.  Many scientists have run tests like this and all came out the same.  Bottled water companies, like Aquafina, have been under great pressure to re-label their products with labeling that tells consumers exactly what is in the product. Their labels now say “Bottled from P.W.S.” — This is their way of further trying to hide the truth. P.W.S. stands for “Public Water Source,” by the way. They are just bottling tap water and charging $2 for it!

So now knowing that people are paying a lot of money for the same thing you can drink out of your sink for a lower price. Use water filters to get that bottled water taste right from the tap! Personal water filters can be found in handy-to-carry bottles and pumps. Save yourself a lot of money! Quit paying a premium for these bottled products! Go with filtered water.

11 Fun Steps to Drinking More Water

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

1. Determine how much water you need. You’ve probably heard the “8 by 8″ rule, drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day but the amount of water a person needs varies depending on his or her weight and activity level. A better way to determine your specific recommended water intake is to divide your weight by two. The resulting number is the number of ounces of water you need each day. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs., try to drink 75 ounces of water daily.

2. Measure your daily intake of water. Do this for a few days. If you find that you’re drinking less than the recommended quantity, try some of the following tips.

3. Carry water with you everywhere you go. Before long, you’ll find yourself reaching for it without a second thought.

4. Keep water next to you whenever you’ll be sitting down for a long time, such as when you’re at your desk at work.

5. Drink from it regularly as you’re working.

6. Try wearing a digital watch that beeps at the beginning of each hour. Use that as a reminder to take a few sips of water.

7. If you drink only 6 ounces per hour, you’ll have consumed 48 ounces by the end of an 8-hour workday.

8. Get a water filtration system. Filtered water tastes very good and may help make drinking water more appealing to you. Be aware, though, that as you grow accustomed to filtered water, you may find that tap water leaves a bad taste or odor in your mouth.

9. Add lemons or limes or other flavors to your water, it makes it taste better and makes you want to drink more of it. Be careful not to make it too sour, just a splash of sourness should do the trick. These are cheap alternatives to the bottled flavored water.

10. Eat water rich foods, such as fruits like watermelon, which is 92% water by weight. Cranberry juice is also another option, and has a bitter taste. A tomato is 95% water. An egg is about 74% water. A piece of lean meat is about 70% water.

11. Try exercising more to cause yourself to be thirstier and therefore drink more water.

The biggest difference can be achieved by filtering you water. Many people dislike water because of the bad taste, bad odors, and chlorine found in tap water. Once you have tasted filtered water for yourself you’ll never dislike water again!

Water is great but can be dissapointing when not filtered. The easiest way to filter water is to purchase a portable filtration device they come in all shapes and sizes. You can get a filtered bottle, canteen, pump, or pitcher… So don’t let the common excuses dealing with bad taste, bad odor, or too much chlorine prevent you from drinking you daily recommended amount of water!

Why bottled water is such a waste!

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

For starters, 1.5 million barrels of oil in the US are used to make water bottles from polyethylene terephthalate each year. Not to mention that 86% of those bottles created are sent to landfills or incinerated serving no long term purpose and destroying our environment. Many times, bottled water is manufactured and shipped long distances, like the 1.4 million bottles of Finnish tap water sent to Saudi Arabia or the importing of the popular Fiji water by the US and Canada. Demand for bottled water has been increasing even in areas where tap water is safe to drink. The increase in demand causes the production of unnecessary garbage and consumes vast amounts of energy. Although the bottled water is often no healthier than tap water, it can cost up to 10,000 times more. Tap water comes to us through an energy-efficient infrastructure whereas bottled water must be transported long distances leading to increased polution, which damages the environment. Nearly one-fourth of all bottled water crosses national borders by boats, trains, airplanes, and trucks. The long distance transportation involves burning massive quantities of fossil fuels so now is the time to buy the alternative to bottled water. Filtered water bottles give you the convenience you desire while being more affordable and more environmentally friendly.

Bottled Water Controversy

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

The bottled water companies are under fire by the same health conscious consumers who made it into a $15 billion industry. The consumer concern primarily deals with the environmental damage caused by the waste from over 38 million plastic bottles a year and the large amounts of energy and fuel costs that are required to bring the product to market. This concern has also raised questions regarding the water quality or lack there of.

Individual consumers aren’t the only ones involved in the controversy many city governments have even joined in by banning their facilities from buying bottled water.

Bottled water has become a huge problem and you can play your part in saving the environment and your money by using alternative sources to receive great tasting safe drinking water. A reusable filtered water bottle is a great example of how you can eliminate the waste caused by plastic bottles. Also, it is an affordable alternative to bottled water because you can filter in many cases up to 80 gallons per filter. Once you reach the life of the water filter, you can simply replace it and continue using the same bottle. Now that you know about the effects of bottled water and have an alternative take a stand and choose to eliminate bottled water!
