Is your water SAFE?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

If you drink tap water, I hope you have heard about the many recent problems associated with municipal water. As a general rule, the water that comes from the tap might or might not be safe for us. The water always has chlorine, and in some cases, is quite large amounts and in many cases is not safe water to drink. It is widely known that chlorine is very bad for us, especially in large quantities and over a long period of time. Tap water also can contain large amounts of heavy metals, like Lead and Mercury. These metals are especially dangerous for children, elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

What do I do?

For starters, quit drinking tap water on a regular basis. You will realize after not drinking the water for an extended period, when you go back and drink it again it will smell like chlorine and will have a bad taste. You need to immediately begin using water filters everywhere you go. Get some water filters for the house and for the refrigerator. When you are at work, traveling, or at the gym, make sure you get a water filter bottle. These personal water filters can be filled up with ordinary tap water and the filter inside will filter your water as you drink.

Stay healthy, help the environment, drink filtered water today!

Stop the Bottled Water Use!

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Bottled water companies promote their products as being purer and safer than regular municipal (tap) water. Bottled water can cost over 10,000 times more per gallon than regular tap water. Many bottled water campaigns say their products are held to “higher standards,” but in reality tap water is actually held to more stringent quality standards than bottled water. Many brands of bottled water have been discovered to be nothing more than tap water in disguise. The ever increasing consumption of bottled water is fueling an unsustainable industry that leaves a heavy imprint on our environment. The estimated amount of oil used to create bottles for bottled water is 1.5 million barrels of oil. The amount of oil burned to transport these bottles is too significant to calculate.

The massive increase in bottled water production has produced water shortages in areas near bottling plants and plastic bottle plants. In addition to the millions of gallons of water used in the plastic-making process, two gallons of water are wasted in the purification process for every gallon that goes into the bottles.

The next time you begin to feel thirsty stop before you grab a bottle of water! Go to the nearest computer and google personal water filters. You will find a filtered bottle that you can use in the city to filter regular tap water. The filters are designed to remove everything you dislike about tap water.

Did You Know These Facts on Filtered Water Bottles??

Monday, March 17th, 2008

A filtered water bottle is a bottle that has a filter attached to the cap. The filter removes things like chlorine, bad taste, and bad odors from the water.

The following are some facts about the benefits of drinking filtered water from a filtered water bottle instead of drinking bottled water:

1) The averege filtered water bottle filter will last up to 80 gallons with optimal water
a) assuming the water you drink is optimal this means two replacement filters you purchase for $13 will give you 160 gallons at a cost of $0.12 a gallon.

b) It would take 8 – 16oz bottles of water to equal one gallon. If you pay $1.00 to $2.00 per bottle you will be paying somewhere between $8.00 to $16.00 to equal the same amount of water you can drink for $0.12 through a filtered water bottle

2) The average bottle of water has only 16 ounces of water and costs $1-2.00 (depending on brand).
a) The cost of 16 ounces of filtered water through a filtered water bottle is $0.015!

b) The number of 16oz bottles of water you could eliminate drinking if you used a personal water filter bottle and got the full 80 gallons would be 640 bottles!

So you see there is a huge positive impact that can be made if you choose to give up bottled water and use the more affordable, environmentally friendly, convenient alternative to bottled water.

Are all the contaminants equally harmful for travelers?

Who sets international drinking water standards?

What about edible ice cubes?

Can I disinfect ice cubes?

What is bottled water?

How I know if that bottled water is safe?

Where can I found the listing of certified bottled water?

What can I do if I need to use unsafe tap water?

How can I know what is risky to do, if tap water is not safe?

How can I prevent to get diseases in swimming pools and spas?

What about people with severely compromised immune system?

Are waterborne diseases the same in people with HIV/AIDS as in other people?

Which substances have to be identified when testing drinking water?

These questions are important but if you choose a biological filtration device for your international trip then these questions become irrelevant. You can have the confidence that the portable filtration device you purchased is going to keep you safe. There are many devices that can filter biological contaminants like bacteria, cysts, and protozoa. These products are PERFECT for international travel and emergency use. You no longer need to wonder about the quality of your drinking water. The important thing is to find one that works!

A City Government Setting a Good Example

Friday, September 7th, 2007

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order in June which bans the use of bottled water which went into effect July 1, 2007. He also put a deadline banning the use of water coolers as of December 1, 2007. This move was made in an effort to set an example for both the private sector and other citties by getting off the bottle (bottled water). The result from these bans will help reduce plastic waste leading to global warming and save taxpayer money.

You too can make a difference by discontinuing the use of bottled water and beginning to drink tap water. The three concerns people have when asked why they wouldn’t drink tap water is because of chlorine, bad taste and bad odors. These concerns are valid and can be alleviated through the use of filtered water bottles. Why not get the best of both worlds? Free water that also tastes great! Personal Filter Bottles do exactly that.

Huge Holes in Bottled Water Safety Regulations

Friday, August 10th, 2007

The bottled water industry often makes the FALSE claim that it is far better regulated than tap water suppliers are.

  • The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has said “When compared to the level of regulation and scrutiny applied to tap water . . .bottled water consumers come out way ahead.”
  • IBWA asserted that “If one considers the full range of FDA consumer protection standards, bottled water safeguards have been more complete and protective for a longer time than tap water standards.”
  • IBWA contends, “Quality is in every container of bottled water. It’s consistent and it is inspected and monitored by governmental and private laboratories. Unfortunately, tap water can be inconsistent — sometimes it might be okay while other times it is not.”
  • The IBWA further declares that “bottled water is strictly regulated on the federal level by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and on the state level by state officials. This ensures that all bottled water sold in the United States meets these stringent standards.”

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE DECEPTION:

In a review by an environmental action group known as the Natural Resources Defense Council, the federal bottled water regulations are actually much weaker than tap water regulations.

Here is the first problem with bottled water regulation:

The FDA ,under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, is supposed to have adopted and applied all EPA tap water standards to bottled water within 180 days after the EPA issued the standards. There is one big loop hole here because the FDA has been authorized to refuse applying EPA tap standards to bottled water in certain situations where it has determined and publishished reasons why it would not be appropriate for bottled water. There haven’t been any situations where they have refused to apply the standards because they never adopted these standards in the first place.

Here is the second problem with bottled water regulation:

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) amendments modified the FFDCA to provide that, by operation of law, if FDA does not adopt new EPA tap water rules for bottled water within 180 days, EPA standards will automatically serve as bottled water standards.

HERE IS THE LOOPHOLE: If the FDA decides to adopt its own standards, they must be at least as stringent as EPA tap water standards, unless FDA finds that the contaminant does not occur at all in bottled water. If this is the case, the FDA can waive the requirement to have a bottled water standard.

Gaping holes remain in the regulatory fabric for bottled water, and FDA and state resources dedicated to bottled water protection and enforcement generally are thin to nonexistent.

SO HERE IS THE SOLUTION:

Don’t buy bottled water any more and save your money! Your probably thinking “How will I drink water that tastes good away from home?” The answer is buy a portable water filter. Many are available to choose from pick the one you think will fit your needs. Stop worrying about the unregulated bottled water industry and don’t give up by drinking bad tasting, foul smelling tap water! GET A BOTTLE FILTER TODAY!

Bottled Water talked about often

Monday, August 6th, 2007

You may see lots of blarticles (blog+articles) detailing why bottled water is bad or why you shouldn’t drink it. Here is a perfect example why bottled water is talked about so much!

Bottled water is often misleading but most people don’t think anything of it. Until now, water sellers have come under fire from corporate accountability groups for misleading the public (YOU!) into beliving their water comes from natural springs…

Many bottled water drinkers have suspected bottled water to be filtered tap water, but no one knew for sure. Rest assured this won’t be the case any more! Companies like PepsiCO (Aquafina), Coca-Cola Co. (Dasani), Nestle Waters North America (Nestle Pure Life purified drinking water) have all been pressed to label their products properly. These companies all filter regular municipal water, bottle it, and sell it to the unsuspecting consumer.

Don’t continue to be fooled into funding this $11 billion bottled water industry. If you don’t like the taste of your water buy something worthwhile! Like a personal filtration system. There are tons of them out there that are more affordable and more convenient than bottled water! Try a filtered bottle and other water filter products and see for yourself! They provide the same great taste but are more affordable and more convenient!

Unsafe chlorine levels have been found in DC water supply

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

The Environmental Working Group conducted water tests over a 5-day period recently in Washington DC. The tests were done at schools, homes, office buildings, the US Capitol, and the EPA office buildings. The Environmental Working Group, a non-profit agency, tested the waters after a month-long over-chlorination the Washington Aqueduct does annually in hopes of removing sediment and other items from the pipes. Basically, the agency decides to severly over-pollute the water supply with a cancer-causing agent for a month each year in hopes of removing some bad stuff from the pipes.

The tests were done a few days after the end of the “chlorine burn,” and the results were horrible. The associated press reports that unsafe levels of these chlorine pollutants were found in 40 percent of the Washington DC water. The EWG attempted to get the Army Corps of Engineers to take a serious look at the problem, but they feel that the levels of contamination are “probably temporary,” according to Aqueduct General Manager Thomas Jacobus. He says the water currently meets EPA standards because he is allowed to average the contaminant levels throughout the year.

Obviously this kind of problem reflects a nationwide problem with our tap water supply system. Without these agencies watching out for us, we will have to continue to filter the water ourselves using carbon filtration using personal water filters, home filters, and other water filters and water filter products every day. Next time you plan a trip with the kids to go check out the White House, make sure you take your filter bottle!

How Basic Carbon Water Filters work…

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

The black granular high quality filter carbon is distinguished by its rugged grain structure and high porosity. This highly porous internal structure efficiently absorbs and retains taste, odor, and colorcomponents from water as it passes through the filter bed. (Area of porosity = 3,000,000 sq. in. per lb. of activated carbon) A very common problem is that of chloro-organic compounds which are produced by the chlorination of a water supply for bacterial kill. These chloro-organiccompounds impart tastes and odors which are much stronger than residual chlorine, however they are removed along with the free chlorine residual by passing the water through an activated charcoal filter. It is necessary to replace the carbon filter bed when the capacity for taste and odors is exhausted.

When using filter products and talking about water filters and portable water filters, make sure that you have a good understanding of the filter media used and what it will filter out. This will help in your filter purchases.

Why you shouldn’t rely on distillation why traveling….

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Water distillation will kill and remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, heavy metals, and particulate. For all intents and purposes, distilled water comes closest to the definition of pure drinking water, and the distillation process removes the broadest range of contaminates of any point of use system.

Distillation can be a wonderful answer for pregnant women, iodine sensitive individuals, or long term travelers. Just like any other purification process, however, distillation does have its drawbacks.

First of all, it requires a reliable source of electricity. Most distillers process about a gallon of water every eight hours or so, which leaves little leeway in between outlets.

Distillers are the heaviest and bulkiest of water purification systems – definitely not something you can pack in your carry-on bag.

Water distillation requires planning. You can’t just plug it in and have your liter of water a few minutes later. It takes many hours in some case to begin producing water.

Most importantly, distilled water does not taste good. Nobody that drinks distilled water is doing it because they like the flavor. While it is important to have clean water, there are better ways.

The easiest and most effective solution is a personal water filter bottle. There are lots of different levels of filtration available. If you believe you are traveling to a second or third world country get the highest level of filtration. A biological filter bottle that uses a submicron rate filter will protect you from parasites, bacteria, and bad taste. If you suspect the water to have been virally contaminated use iodine or chlorine tablets.
