A recent study showed that traditional bottled water had no fewer contaminants than tap water. Isn’t that why most people drink bottled water? Surely, not because they want to add to the ever increasing landfill and pollution problem. If you’re concerned with contaminants and you want the convenience of a bottle, the best way to go is with a portable water filter that is filtered with a carbon or membrane filter. These bottle filters are inexpensive and very easy to use. Why doesn’t everybody have one? Not only is it keeping you safe, it’s helping the environment. It’s a win, win for you and the Earth.

Why bottled water is such a waste!
Thursday, September 6th, 2007For starters, 1.5 million barrels of oil in the US are used to make water bottles from polyethylene terephthalate each year. Not to mention that 86% of those bottles created are sent to landfills or incinerated serving no long term purpose and destroying our environment. Many times, bottled water is manufactured and shipped long distances, like the 1.4 million bottles of Finnish tap water sent to Saudi Arabia or the importing of the popular Fiji water by the US and Canada. Demand for bottled water has been increasing even in areas where tap water is safe to drink. The increase in demand causes the production of unnecessary garbage and consumes vast amounts of energy. Although the bottled water is often no healthier than tap water, it can cost up to 10,000 times more. Tap water comes to us through an energy-efficient infrastructure whereas bottled water must be transported long distances leading to increased polution, which damages the environment. Nearly one-fourth of all bottled water crosses national borders by boats, trains, airplanes, and trucks. The long distance transportation involves burning massive quantities of fossil fuels so now is the time to buy the alternative to bottled water. Filtered water bottles give you the convenience you desire while being more affordable and more environmentally friendly.
Who Tests Bottled Water?
Sunday, July 15th, 2007The FDA trusts bottled water companies testing filtering systems, and has refused to require lab certification. FDA regulations specify that either “qualified bottling plant personnel” or “competent commercial laboratories” use approved water quality test methods. The FDA and it does not require that such personnel or laboratories be certified or otherwise establish their qualifications to do the required tests. Since the FDA has decided not to force companies to use certified labs, why should we trust the quality of the water? They state that there is no current law or right that can legally give them the ability to force these types of rules or guidelines, even though it has been proven to be dangerous to us all.
So you can see that there is a huge problem with this lack water regulation. The FDA is obviously not concerned with you, the consumer, and your physical well-being. Don’t leave it up to a government agency to decide what is or isn’t good for you. Make the decision for yourself and choose to use home water filters and water bottle filter products wherever you are!
Avoid Montezuma’s Revenge
Thursday, June 28th, 2007There are all kinds of dangers lurking in the water and a Great White Shark is the least of the traveler’s worries. Montezuma’s Revenge, the popular name for the effect that microbes in the local water supply can have on travelers, ruins an estimated 40% of overseas vacations. Don’t let it ruin yours!
1. All food is to be cooked Well Done. The temperature of every bit of the juices needs to hit 165 degrees Fahrenheit. In America or other Western nations, you may can eat a steak Medium Rare but in the Third World you want to see NO PINK IN THE MIDDLE. Some Western style hotels and restaurants may use proper cooking procedures, but when in doubt have your food cooked thoroughly!
2. Bottled water is an option, but can be too expensive. The best is carbonated water because the carbonation process kills the microbes in the water. By ordering carbonated water you also preclude someone from putting local (tainted) tap water into your table’s bottle and selling it as fresh. Be aware though that some studies have shown the outside of the bottle caps to be contaminated and of course if you pour the drink over ice then you might as well call the doctor immediately.
3. Purify your drinking water VERY AFFORDABLE!! Unfortunately, you cannot always get bottled water and you will need a way to purify what you are drinking. Water filter bottles are the most common method. These portable water filters have a filter built right into them and will filter out a wide range of contaminants from the water.
4. Spicy Food as a Preventative? In the past there was a belief that spicy food could help you prevent Montezuma’s Revenge. Recent studies have discounted this idea. More studies are needed but don’t be surprised if after eating spicy food you have an upset stomach filled with live microbes.
5. Oops! Took every precaution and still lost the battle. Not to fear. Anti-biotics can solve the problem. Visit your local doctor or medic and have them prescribed for you.
Why you shouldn’t rely on boiling water
Sunday, June 10th, 2007While it is true that boiled water is biologically pure water, it should not be relied upon as the sole source of drinking water. Once again, the problem is availability. Most travelers do not have a stove and pan at the ready when they need water, and it is never wise to be dependent on others for water purification. We have heard from travelers who have requested boiled water from their hotel front desk, and then have become terribly ill on the “boiled” water that was delivered. Please remember that both the water and the container must be sterilized to avoid contamination.
Be safe! Don’t travel outside the U.S. without a water filter bottle. The best level of filtration will be obtained through a biological filter. Take the precaution now so you won’t have to worry while traveling.

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007We all know the dangers of chlorine and heavy metals from water to make safe drinking water. We use water filters wherever we go, and carry water bottles with filters around and drink clean water all the time. But what about Fido and Duchess, our family pets? They need fresh water too! Now your dogs and cats can drink the same filtered water that we all take advantage of. The Pure Water Tower for pets is a simple device that contains a filter to remove chlorine and lead from ordinary water. Your pets will love you for the great tasting water you give to them.

Portable Water Purifier – Remove the Lead
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007A portable water purifier that has the ability to absorb and remove lead from drinking water is a must according to the EPA. The EPA warns “Lead is commonly used in household plumbing materials and water service lines.” They go on to say that lead in drinking water can cause adverse health effects, especially in children. Lead concentrations in water actually INCREASE when the water is boiled, so the EPA recommends that parents either filter their water using water purifiers for baby formula and children’s drinks or talk to their doctor about alternatives. A simple water filter bottle can be squeezed into a child’s drink or formula very easily wherever you are. No more wondering what your kids are drinking!
How to read your into your water report.
Thursday, March 8th, 2007If you are served by a community water system, by July of each year you should receive a consumer confidence reporting on water quality. These reports are designed to show you how safe and what problems may have occurred in the previous year. These reports are usually mailed to homeowners or posted on building bulletin boards if you are a tenant. If you can’t find it or haven’t received it check with you local library. The reports are required to be available to all people served by the community water system, but are not require to be mailed. In fact, in most cases the reports are only mailed if the water system is flawless or near perfect. Bad water systems and water systems that fail to follow the EPA rules or testing procedures tend to either post them in a hard-to-find place or not post them at all. You may even try to directly contact you local water company, but expect some run-around. If your community water system has over 100,000 customers, they are required to post these reports online. You may also check with the Environmental Protection Agency at www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo.htm.
In the middle of the report, you should find the contaminants found in the water and any contaminants which violated the accepted standard levels, in the past year. The list of contaminants should include more than just total coliform, lead, and total THMs.
It should also include the following contaminants:
- Arsenic- often shows up in water supplies drawn from wells. This contaminant has been said to contribute to cancer and is known to harm the skin, heart, nerves, and blood vessels. The levels should not exceed 10 ppb in order to be in compliance with the 2006 EPA Guidelines.
- Cryptosporidium- is a parasite that comes from animal waste and remains dormant a cyst. It must be filtered out or killed by boiling water before it is safe to drink, cook, bathe, or brush teeth.
Read the report very closely because they can be very misleading. For example, a report by Hanover (New Hampshire) Water Works says on their first page “We are pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets federal and state requirements.” However, if you were to continue reading you would discover it violated the total coliform and lead levels.
So to avoid the chance that your water company may be misleading you to believe your water is safe. I have one word for you FILTER your water at all times. This means filter your water at home and away. Get a filter from a reputable company who has been around for many years. You, your family, and your friends should all be using a filter at home on your sink and make sure you put shower filters on all showers. When you leave your house you should be using a portable filtration device (i.e. filtered water bottles) because the risk is even greater when drinking from an unknown water source (i.e. water fountain, sink, etc..). When you get used to using portable water filters and carrying around water bottles with filters, you can be sure your water is safe and you will even save money. Water is a necessary part of every human beings existence drink responsibly. You owe it to yourself and to those you love to settle for only the best quality water.
Water Bottle Filter
Monday, March 5th, 2007Water Bottle Filter products are totally revolutionary products. The idea that a filter can be placed into a simple, easy to use, portable bottle has actually been around for decades. Originally started by the US Government, Portable Water Filters and the advanced technology needed to make them work correctly can change the way you drink water. Imagine being able to have clean, purified water anytime and anywhere. You can fill up your bottle in a sink, water fountain, garden hose, swimming pool, roadside ditch, mud puddle, lake, or stream. No matter the water source, there are water bottle filters that can do the job.
Unfortunately in today’s society, drinking water all over the world is becoming more difficult to find for literally millions of people. Something as simple as a water filter can save thousands of lives. Do your part to make sure the water you and your family are drinking is safe.
