Eliminating Bottled Water Can REALLY Save You Money!

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

A year ago, if someone were to ask me how much I spent a week on bottled water it would have been between $50-60. That doesn’t sound like a lot but when you multiply that by 52 weeks a year your looking at between $2600-3120 a year. That is a lot of money!

Now I am able to save that $3000 thanks to the filtered water bottle I use daily! I can’t tell you how convenient it is to fill up the bottle from any water source and not worry about how the water tastes or smells. It so affordable!! The filters cost less than 7 dollars, and I get about 3 months of usage out of a single filter. Water Filters really are a perfect way to get clean drinking water at an affordable price.

I love my water filter bottle, and I am sure you will too! So quit burning your money!

Reasons People Choose Bottled Water:

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Everyone thinks drinking bottled water is “cool.” The bottled water companies have spent a great deal of money attempting to gain popularity of their product, and they have done a great job. Some just go with the flow or just do it without giving it a thought.

Some people say they buy it so they can easily refill the empty water bottle with tap water in their offices. Some people love the convenience, and yet others love the taste. However, if you had a Portable Water Filter you would no longer need to buy bottled water again!

Some say they buy it for health reasons because they need to keep plenty of water in their automobiles to take medications.

Convenience and portable. Drink and trash the empty bottles.

Bottled water is trendy. It’s a symbol of our culture.

For some it has simply become a habit that’s difficult to let go.

Bottled water is pure and tap water is not. We all know that is wrong!

Bottled water tastes better than tap water; municipal waters taste like chemicals.  Wrong!

Some say bottled water is healthier than tap water.  Wrong!

Aquafina water is really tap water! Riiiiight…….

Bottom line: The truth is a filtered water bottle is healthier, safer, cheaper, and better for our environment. Get yourself in a more affordable and safer habit and get a water filter bottle. You can carry it wherever you go and filter your own water instantly. Get into this filter bottle craze that is sweeping the nation!

Specific Gaps and Loopholes in Bottled Water Regulation

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

The following is a list of gaps and loopholes in bottled water regulation by the FDA:

1. Water bottled and sold in a single state — the majority of bottled water sold in the United States — is not covered by FDA rules, according to FDA.

2. FDA’s definition of “bottled water” covered by its standards irrationally exempts many types of bottled water.

3. Even water defined as “bottled water” is not specifically required to meet treatment, contamination, or testing standards as strict as those applicable to city tap water.

You can see loopholes and gaps in regulation could affect your health and if anything they affect your wallet. Don’t pay money for something that isn’t even as good as tap water. Do yourself a favor and purchase a water filter and water filter bottle to remove chlorine, bad taste, and odor from the water when your away from your home. Your body will thank you!

The Difference In Regulations Of Tap Water Compared To Bottled Water

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Tap Water and Bottled Water are not equal, and neither are the regulations that should make us safe when drinking! If you think bottled water if safe, you may want to think again.

The first difference in regulation is weaker chemical-contaminant testing requirements for bottled water.

  • Under EPA rules, a city must test its tap water for many organic chemicals, generally at least once a quarter
  • Water bottlers need only test for most chemicals once a year under FDA’s rules.

The following are the contaminants that tap water tests for, but bottled water companies ARE NOT required to report on. Asbestos, Bromate, Di(2-Ethylhexyl)phthalate, Haloacetic acids, Dibromomethane, m-Dichlorobenzene, 1,1-Dichloropropene, Dichloroethane, Tetrachloroethane, Dichloropropane, Chloromethane, Bromomethane, Trichloropropane, Tetrachloroethane, Chloroethane, Dichloropropane, Chlorotoluene, Chlorotoluene, Bromobenzene, and Dichloropropene. Now I personally don’t know what the majority of those items are, but I did do a quick check on a few of the items, and I found out that all of them I DO NOT WANT!! Check them out yourself, you will be surprised as I was.

So you can see that bottled water isn’t the safe alternative! The safe alternative to bad tasting tap water is achieved by using water filters to remove any contaminants that may still be in the water after treatment. The irregularities in regulations seen above show that tap water is better regulated so you at least know what is or isn’t in the water. Bottled water and its weak regulations don’t give you the luxury of knowing what is or isn’t in the water you drink. Don’t fool yourself and live the repercussions of your choice. BE SAFE FILTER TAP WATER and know the quality before you drink!

Bottled Water Killing us all?

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

An article in the Chicago Sun Times in April did a great job helping us get the word out about how bottled water is made, how it hurts the environment, and how recycling these bottles is a massive waste of energy. Click here to read the article. However, while I hate to poke holes in people’s work; it’s high time people start writing correct information, not just information that makes sense.

In the 3rd paragraph of the article, recycling is brought up. She explains that PET bottles are recyclable, but it does no good because only 1 out of every five bottles is actually recycled. She leads us to believe that this is because consumers just don’t care and are throwing them away. This is a HUGE mis-statement for 2 reasons:

1. Plastic bottles actually cost more money and use more energy to recycle than they do to make a new one. While it’s great to recycle, there are very few groups that are going to do much recycling if it makes no monetary sense. In fact, the only people that will do that is the government (obviously). At the end of the day we have to pay for the waste of money. Until it catches on in the private sector, or until some of these “activist groups” figure out a way to start raising money for the high cost of recycling, it’s never going to be a really good alternative.

2. Still not convinced? Well, this will stick the final nail in the coffin. What if we got everybody to recycle? What if we started a massive global-wide recycling program and every bottled used went into recycled bottles? Perfect, right? Wrong. According to the regulations regarding food products in the US, only 5% to 10% of the material used in making plastic bottles can be from recycled material. It’s called “food-grade plastic” and has been a requirement for decades. It makes us all safe when we use the products, which is the idea. If all the bottles were recycled, we would just be creating a lot of material we can’t use. The new bottles are still being created, and must eventually be thrown away.

The only real option we have is to re-use the same bottles. Get a water filter bottle or portable water filter and filter your own water. You can make your own great-tasting water directly from the tap, it saves money, and saves the environment. The best part, if everybody used water bottle filters we wouldn’t need bottled water anymore! How great would that be?

Avoid Montezuma’s Revenge

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

There are all kinds of dangers lurking in the water and a Great White Shark is the least of the traveler’s worries. Montezuma’s Revenge, the popular name for the effect that microbes in the local water supply can have on travelers, ruins an estimated 40% of overseas vacations. Don’t let it ruin yours!

1. All food is to be cooked Well Done. The temperature of every bit of the juices needs to hit 165 degrees Fahrenheit. In America or other Western nations, you may can eat a steak Medium Rare but in the Third World you want to see NO PINK IN THE MIDDLE. Some Western style hotels and restaurants may use proper cooking procedures, but when in doubt have your food cooked thoroughly!

2. Bottled water is an option, but can be too expensive. The best is carbonated water because the carbonation process kills the microbes in the water. By ordering carbonated water you also preclude someone from putting local (tainted) tap water into your table’s bottle and selling it as fresh. Be aware though that some studies have shown the outside of the bottle caps to be contaminated and of course if you pour the drink over ice then you might as well call the doctor immediately.

3. Purify your drinking water VERY AFFORDABLE!! Unfortunately, you cannot always get bottled water and you will need a way to purify what you are drinking. Water filter bottles are the most common method. These portable water filters have a filter built right into them and will filter out a wide range of contaminants from the water.

4. Spicy Food as a Preventative? In the past there was a belief that spicy food could help you prevent Montezuma’s Revenge. Recent studies have discounted this idea. More studies are needed but don’t be surprised if after eating spicy food you have an upset stomach filled with live microbes.

5. Oops! Took every precaution and still lost the battle. Not to fear. Anti-biotics can solve the problem. Visit your local doctor or medic and have them prescribed for you.

Why you shouldn’t rely on boiling water

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

While it is true that boiled water is biologically pure water, it should not be relied upon as the sole source of drinking water. Once again, the problem is availability. Most travelers do not have a stove and pan at the ready when they need water, and it is never wise to be dependent on others for water purification. We have heard from travelers who have requested boiled water from their hotel front desk, and then have become terribly ill on the “boiled” water that was delivered. Please remember that both the water and the container must be sterilized to avoid contamination.

Be safe! Don’t travel outside the U.S. without a water filter bottle. The best level of filtration will be obtained through a biological filter. Take the precaution now so you won’t have to worry while traveling.

High-Risk Filtration Needs

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

In areas where viral contamination is a risk a good water filter bottle used in conjunction with chlorine tablets will render your water safe to drink. There is no need to wait 30 minutes once the tablets are dissolved, since the filtration process removes the larger, hard-shelled creatures such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Unfortunately, no water treatment method is perfect.

The use of a biological bottle in combination with chlorine tablets will help insure that your water is the safest possible. Don’t let yourself get sick because you didn’t take the necessary precautions.

Brita Fill & Go

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Those of your looking for the Brita Fill & Go water filter bottle are out of luck. Brita no longer makes this product. The bottle had a carbon-based water filter attached to the cap inside the bottle. As you drink, the filter removes chlorine and taste and odor problems from the water. The product is a great idea, however Brita version lacked the ability to filter as well as others on the market, so they cancelled the project. However, the water filter bottle market is still alive and bringing new products to market every year.

You might be wondering how often Arsenic is found in the water..?

Friday, April 6th, 2007

You may be thinking what are the chances of your own water being contaminated by Arsenic? The answer is the chances are pretty high according to data provided to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EPA compiled the data containing arsenic levels from 25 states. After the NRDC analyzed this data, the estimates from this data are quite alarming. Conservative estimates based on the data provided by the EPA indicate that 34 million Americans drink tap water from water systems containing an unacceptable average level of arsenic. The high levels cause increased cancer risks. It is more likely that 56 million people in those 25 states have been consuming water with unsafe Arsenic levels. Keep in mind that these figures are only for 25 out of 50 states.

So you should check with you local water provider to see what the levels are in your area. These are real dangers to you and your family. Protect you and your loved ones with water filters that have the ability to remove heavy metals and biological contaminants. When you are away from home, Water Bottle Filters are perfect to use from other water sources.
