Don’t believe your water is contaminated? Got to see it to believe it?

Monday, March 12th, 2007

If you don’t believe that the water you drink is contaminated, do a test and see for yourself.

There are many different tests you can run on your water. It all depends on how extensive and how expensive you want the test to be.

The easiest and cheapest would be a simple chlorine test. All it requires is a sample of the water a few drops of orthotolidine (OTO) and the water will turn yellow indicating the level of chlorine. The test kit should come with a color bar and if you water is too yellow the color bar will indicate that it is unsafe to swim in. So think about this if the water your drinking is not safe enough for you to swim in then it obviously wouldn’t be safe enough for you to drink or even to bathe in. Get a tester and test your own chlorine levels. Keep in mind, you will only get an idea of the chlorine level, not an exact number. For a more scientific test, consult a water expert.

Another major contaminant is lead. It is said that one out of every nine children has unacceptable high lead levels in their blood. These children don’t go around ingesting lead paint so according to the EPA, it is coming from the water they are drinking and the water they are showering and bathing in. Lead is also known to cause nerve, kidney, and other disorders in adults.

Imagine in a 10 minute shower your body will absorb the same amount of chlorine found in 2 gallons of tap water. So you do the math and you will see that tap water isn’t clean and you need to protect yourself from contaminants at all times. This means you need to get a shower filter, a home water filter for sinks, and a portable water filter to insure that your water is clean and safe at all times!

Do I need a Shower Filter?

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

When you take a shower, do you ever notice the smell of chlorine or other odors? Does your tap water dry out your skin or hair? Are you absorbing a lot of chlorine and lead? Do you know how Shower Filters can help?

You probably aren’t able to answer at least one of those questions. Think about them next time you are in the shower. You may have become immune to the fact that the vapors in the hot shower are actually chlorine vapors you are inhaling every morning. You may have tried different soaps, shampoos, moisturizers, and lotions because you always seem to have dry or itchy skin and hair. According to the EPA, you are absorbing chlorine and lead and don’t even know it. This is your wakeup call!

Showering in tap water is dangerous. You are literally trying to “clean” yourself in chlorine toxins used to kill bacteria and lead that naturally occurs in the environment. These items are found in your tap water and are reported to you every year in your water supply water quality report. If you are like most people, trips to the store, soccer games, and errands seem to take up all your time, thus not leaving much to read about the dangers your water utility is already warning you about. We all just trust that the water we use for drinking and showering everyday is ok. Well, some of that is true. We probably won’t die from it, at least not today. However, it’s time we all do something about it. But what? Use a shower filter?

In a perfect world, the water utilities would remove everything harmful and we would have perfectly clean water to drink and shower in. However, we all know this would cost a lot more money and thus our water bill would probably be higher than our electric bill. Yikes! The solution is we all have to do our own work to further advance the quality of water we all take for granted. Shower Filters have the ability to make our showers a joy every day. They remove the harmful elements and have the added benefit of helping our skin and hair. Do yourself a favor, get a shower filter for your entire family today.

Water Filter Results

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Point of Use water filters like water bottle filtersshower filters, and counter filters are so popular today because of the high quality of water they produce. This high water quality is possible because the water is filtered immediately as it is used. Compared with bottled water, tap water, whole house filters, and refrigerator filters, the overall results you receive from personal water filters are much better. Just imagine you are a molecule of water; you get dirty and you get clean and people use you. When you are clean, or filtered, you are the best and most sparkling water you can be. You have no dirt on you, and you are perfect for any uses. However, if you have to flow through a lot of pipes or sit in a storage tank before you are use, you pickup all kinds of germs and dirt that make you taste bad. Make sure point of use systems are used, you will get the best water quality possible.

Filters for Water Bottles

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Water Bottles with filters allow you to squeeze and filter any type of water instantly as you drink. These water filter bottles are simply filled up with water from the tap, lakes, ponds, or any other water source. You then attach the filter cap back onto the bottle and start drinking. There is no waiting and no messy chemicals. Just tip the bottle up and start enjoying pure, clean water. Biological water filters can be used if the water source might contain dangerous bacteria or cryptosporidium. The sub-micron filter will actually prevent organisms in the water from going into your body. These water-borne bacteria can cause all kinds of problems, even in normally healthy people. Make sure you are using a water bottle filter this summer to stay hydrated.

How to determine if your water is safe or not…

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Each year, you should receive a water quality report from the utility company. This yearly report is Federally mandated, but often doesn’t paint a very rosy picture. Coalitions like the Campaign for Safe and Affordable Drinking Water have tirelessly worked to get water companies to finally provide reports that allow consumers to understand and make more informed decisions about the water they drink.

If you were to thoroughly read these documents you would find that they don’t show everything about the water your drinking.

  • For instance, the contamination levels are said to be within allowable limits. What does allowable mean? Allowable limits doesn’t mean that it is safe for pregnant women, infants, the elderly, or people weak immune systems.
  • Also, the reports may show that the water has safe levels of a contaminant(s), but they leave off the part about potentially hazardous spikes that occurred in these levels throughout the year. The reason they fail to report this information is because to remain in compliance they only have to report on the annual average measurement of these contaminants, not on an individual basis.
  • These reports also do not tell you if your water is contaminated from the pipes in your own home. There is a big possibility that your home was built with copper pipes and lead solder connecting them. These metals are known to contaminate the water and it has nothing to do with the city.

So the one way to free yourself from the worries of whether your water is good or not is to filter your water both at home and away from home. You can purchase under the sink filter units, shower filter heads, and water bottle filters. You shouldn’t just rely on the water companies to provide you with safe drinking water. Remember it isn’t just the city water that you should worry about; the problem could be found in your house, office, or anything that the water is traveling through.

PROTECT YOURSELF always filter your water! Filtering your own water is easy and affordable!

How to read your into your water report.

If you are served by a community water system, by July of each year you should receive a consumer confidence reporting on water quality. These reports are designed to show you how safe and what problems may have occurred in the previous year. These reports are usually mailed to homeowners or posted on building bulletin boards if you are a tenant. If you can’t find it or haven’t received it check with you local library. The reports are required to be available to all people served by the community water system, but are not require to be mailed. In fact, in most cases the reports are only mailed if the water system is flawless or near perfect. Bad water systems and water systems that fail to follow the EPA rules or testing procedures tend to either post them in a hard-to-find place or not post them at all. You may even try to directly contact you local water company, but expect some run-around. If your community water system has over 100,000 customers, they are required to post these reports online. You may also check with the Environmental Protection Agency at www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo.htm.

In the middle of the report, you should find the contaminants found in the water and any contaminants which violated the accepted standard levels, in the past year. The list of contaminants should include more than just total coliform, lead, and total THMs.

It should also include the following contaminants:

  • Arsenic- often shows up in water supplies drawn from wells. This contaminant has been said to contribute to cancer and is known to harm the skin, heart, nerves, and blood vessels. The levels should not exceed 10 ppb in order to be in compliance with the 2006 EPA Guidelines.
  • Cryptosporidium- is a parasite that comes from animal waste and remains dormant a cyst. It must be filtered out or killed by boiling water before it is safe to drink, cook, bathe, or brush teeth.

Read the report very closely because they can be very misleading. For example, a report by Hanover (New Hampshire) Water Works says on their first page “We are pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets federal and state requirements.” However, if you were to continue reading you would discover it violated the total coliform and lead levels.

So to avoid the chance that your water company may be misleading you to believe your water is safe. I have one word for you FILTER your water at all times. This means filter your water at home and away. Get a filter from a reputable company who has been around for many years. You, your family, and your friends should all be using a filter at home on your sink and make sure you put shower filters on all showers. When you leave your house you should be using a portable filtration device (i.e. filtered water bottles) because the risk is even greater when drinking from an unknown water source (i.e. water fountain, sink, etc..). When you get used to using portable water filters and carrying around water bottles with filters, you can be sure your water is safe and you will even save money. Water is a necessary part of every human beings existence drink responsibly. You owe it to yourself and to those you love to settle for only the best quality water.

Concerned about water safety? You should be.

As of March 2003, the nations water utilities were required to begin reporting to the Federal Government on their preparedness in the event of a terrorist attack. These water-system vulnerability reports came about after Congress passed an anti-terrorism bill the year before.

Water companies have been given more stringent standards and are now required to tell consumers if they meet the standards for the poison arsenic. These new standards went into affect after the Bush Administration spent 10 months dealing with the political controversies.

The question is “Should you be worried about your drinking water quality?” According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is in charge of monitoring municipal drinking water,  there shouldn’t be any reason to worry about the quality. Cynthia Dougherty, Director of the EPA’s Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water, says that ”by and large, the drinking water is safe.” She also goes on to say that “In the U.S. we have some of the most reliable water systems in the world.”

Although, our systems may be reliable; it would be naive for us to think they are perfect. Contamination incidents do occur and have occurred many many times in the past.

If your water company has more than 20,000 customers then you can rest assured that your water is better protected. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has seen fewer reports of waterborne disease in larger water districts. This reduction is primarily due to the stricter filtering levels that many water-treatment facilities have started using above what is required by the EPA. The reason they have been increasing the filtering levels is because of the 1993 Cryptosporidium outbreak in Milwaukee that killed over 50 people.

Despite these increased efforts to improve water filtering by the water companies, many consumers still deal with tap water contamination or poor water taste and odor. This is the reason for the country-wide use of water filters and water bottle filters. According to a market research firm Frost & Sullivan, over 1 billion dollars is spent each year on water filtration devices. A combination of Portable Water Filter products and shower filters along with counter filters and other water filter systems allow for safe drinking water that is clean, healthy, and taste great.

So your probably asking yourself “How would one know whether or not their water is safe?” Look for the next article titled: “How to determine if your water is safe or not…”

Water Bottle Filter

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Water Bottle Filter products are totally revolutionary products. The idea that a filter can be placed into a simple, easy to use, portable bottle has actually been around for decades. Originally started by the US Government, Portable Water Filters and the advanced technology needed to make them work correctly can change the way you drink water. Imagine being able to have clean, purified water anytime and anywhere. You can fill up your bottle in a sink, water fountain, garden hose, swimming pool, roadside ditch, mud puddle, lake, or stream. No matter the water source, there are water bottle filters that can do the job.

Unfortunately in today’s society, drinking water all over the world is becoming more difficult to find for literally millions of people. Something as simple as a water filter can save thousands of lives. Do your part to make sure the water you and your family are drinking is safe.

Shower Filters

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Are shower filters really important? The short answer, YES!!

Doctors and scientists now estimate that approximately 40-60% of the intake of chlorine we receive is from shower water. Just ask any doctor current in the medical profession, and they will tell you the same thing. There have been numerous studies done and published in medical journals about the dangers of chlorine and tap water, especially through cancer research.

It is also estimated, by the EPA, that showers and shower water are soon to be the leading cause for lead poisoning in the US. The current leader is lead paint, but with all the publicity, lead paint problems have been fixed and cleaned up. Now the cases of lead paint are on the decline.

It’s time we all wake up and use a shower filter in the morning, instead of standing in a dangerous mix of chlorine vapors and lead. Shower Filters are inexpensive, last a long time, and are very simple to install. Get yours today and save yourself from any problems in the future.

Is my bottled water safe?

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

Since 2000, the bottled water industry has grown into a $10 Billion industry. Today, there are finally sings of the industry slowing down. The EPA has released numerous reports about the health and safety of bottled water and consumers are finally becoming more educated about different types of water.

Tap water, while inexpensive, contains many dangerous chemicals including lead and chlorine. The EPA has attempted to lower the amount of lead from the municipal water supplies to 15ppb, however, they can’t do anything about the water once it leaves the plant. On it’s way to your home is where most of the lead is picked up. Water filters with the ability to remove dangerous lead, mercury, and chlorine are required for use with tap water today. While on the go, portable water filters are perfect to filter while you drink. The use of these water filter bottle products is important for all tap water sources and is much less expensive than other pre-filtered sources of water.

The most common “pre-filtered” source of water is bottled water. Bottled water is simply tap water or spring water that is run through different types of water filters before it is bottled. Manufacturers generally add some sodium to the water also for taste. Bottled water that goes through interstate commerce is regulated by the FDA, however, there is currently nobody regulating the process or the labeling requirements of bottled water that is bottled and sold within the same state. This loophole makes it very difficult to tell whether or not the bottled water you drink is actually safe. There are numerous reports about bottled water companies pouring standard tap water into a bottle and calling it “natural spring water.” These bottles are right on the shelf for you to buy at expensive prices. Bottled water is simply not an option.

Filtered water bottles are simple to use and perfect for everyday use. The water filters used in the water bottles with filters can be reused over and over and the water tastes great! Pre-filtered bottled water can cost well over $2 per bottle in many places. With water filter bottles, you can pay as low as 2 cents per bottle!

You know the water is safe and is tastes great! Portable water filter products are perfect for you and your family.
