Water Purification Overseas

When traveling overseas, inadequate sanitation and contaminated water are the leading cause of illness in travelers. To protect yourself, consider your drinking water carefully, and don’t overlook the “hidden” water you use to wash foods, brush teeth, ice, etc.

The easiest method to alleviate these worries while traveling is to use a portable filter. They are easy to use and easy to find. Search for “portable water filtration” and you will have tons of companies to choose from. If your water comes from a pubic or municipal water system, your water should be regularly tested for contaminants regulated by Federal and state standards, such as pathogens, radioactive elements and certain toxic chemicals. However, some public water supplies may have water quality problems caused by inadequate municipal water treatment facilities or distribution systems. Further, the FDA does not regulate fixing any problems found with testing, they simply require testing. To make matters worse, some rural water supply districts do not have enough money to hire trained specialists or to immediately comply with expanding government requirements. In addition, corrosive water or deteriorating pipes in the house may add contaminants to municipal drinking water after it enters your home.

If you live in rural areas or in underdeveloped water districts protect yourself by filtering your water. There are several ways you could filter your water. The best way at home would be to use an atmospheric water generator because it will pull moisture directly out of the air. It has been said to provide the cleanest water on earth. Chlorine is a dangerous chemical by itself, but when added to the water we drink and bathe the danger is amplified.

When chlorine mixes with natural organic compounds it creates a by-product that scientists call “MX.” Researchers have discovered that MX causes cancer. So now the government has started to focus some attention on studying the adverse effects from chemical disinfection.

Brita Fill & Go

Those of your looking for the Brita Fill & Go water filter bottle are out of luck. Brita no longer makes this product. The bottle had a carbon-based water filter attached to the cap inside the bottle. As you drink, the filter removes chlorine and taste and odor problems from the water. The product is a great idea, however Brita version lacked the ability to filter as well as others on the market, so they cancelled the project. However, the water filter bottle market is still alive and bringing new products to market every year.

Water Filters

The recent Safe Water Report released by the EPA recommends using water filters for all drinking and cooking water sources in the US. They warn that levels of nitrates and lead found in tap water throughout the country have been found at unsafe levels. They also warn that boiling water actually increased the concentration of lead and nitrates found in the water. The only safe alternative is to use water filter products with all water. Not only will the water taste much better, but you and your family will be much healthier and happier.

Air to Water

You want to drink pure clean fresh water, right? Of course, we all do! Nobody wants the taste of chlorine and other odors in their water. And I’m sure you especially don’t want the dangerous chemicals, chlorine, lead, etc. that is found in just about all water. Even bottled water is not always fresh and clean anymore.
