You may be thinking what are the chances of your own water being contaminated by Arsenic? The answer is the chances are pretty high according to data provided to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EPA compiled the data containing arsenic levels from 25 states. After the NRDC analyzed this data, the estimates from this data are quite alarming. Conservative estimates based on the data provided by the EPA indicate that 34 million Americans drink tap water from water systems containing an unacceptable average level of arsenic. The high levels cause increased cancer risks. It is more likely that 56 million people in those 25 states have been consuming water with unsafe Arsenic levels. Keep in mind that these figures are only for 25 out of 50 states.

So you should check with you local water provider to see what the levels are in your area. These are real dangers to you and your family. The health effects of Arsenic contaminated water…

Arsenic has tremendous effects on the body. The National Academy of Sciences did a study in 1999, that discovered Arsenic contaminated water causes bladder, lung, and skin cancer, and may be the leading cause of kidney and liver cancer. It was also found to destroy the central and peripheral nervous systems, heart and blood vessels, and cause serious skin problems. Arsenic poisoning has been found to be a factor in many birth defects and reproductive problems.

You may think that your water is safe from Arsenic, but you will be surprised to find it in most U.S. water systems. You may check your local water quality report for information on contamination levels. It is as simple as filtering your water with filtered water bottles and/or a biological water filter to prevent your body from being exposed to it and the damage it causes.

Is Arsenic in your water?

Arsenic is a grayish-white element having a metallic luster, vaporizing when heated, and forming poisonous compounds. Its symbol is ”AS.” Its atomic weight is “74.92″, and its atomic number is 33. In the heavy metal section of the periodic table, arsenic is found by more common dangerous elements such as lead and mercury.

The most common form found in drinking water is Arsenic Trioxide. Arsenic Trioxide is not only colorless, it is tasteless, amorphous, slightly water-soluble, and can be found in a poisonous powder. Its symbol is As2O3. The primary use is in manufacturing pigments, glass, and as an insecticide or weed-killer. It is also known as arsenic acid.

Unsafe levels of Arsenic have been found by the EPA to be in many water systems throughout the U.S. Water filters are recommended everywhere to insure safe water for drinking and showering. Specifically use a biological water filter or other personal water filters that are capable of filtering and absorbing metals out of the water.
