Kids Hospitalized after drinking tainted bottled water

Fire officials in Santa Clarita have finally released information about the tained bottled water at a local Jr. High School. It became clear that something was going on when 12 children became violently ill shortly after lunch at La Mesa Junior High School. The 12 students were immediately rushed to the hospital as the school was shut down and students interviewed as a precaution. It was found that all of the 12 students purchased bottled water at the school’s vending machine. The bottles in the machine and some remaining in students possesion were found to contain a “bleach-like substance.” County and state health services are still trying to determine how and when the bottled water was tainted.

If you are provided with test results on your filter, you must make sure that these tests were performed by EPA-approved labs in the United States. If the tests were performed on the water filter outside the US (Mexico, Canada, South Africa) then the test results are worthless. Outside the US, it is very simple to pay a company to give you the “test results” you want. In the US, our regulations are much more difficult to fake.

If you drink tap water, I hope you have heard about the many recent problems associated with municipal water. As a general rule, the water that comes from the tap might or might not be safe for us. The water always has chlorine, and in some cases, is quite large amounts and in many cases is not safe water to drink. It is widely known that chlorine is very bad for us, especially in large quantities and over a long period of time. Tap water also can contain large amounts of heavy metals, like Lead and Mercury. These metals are especially dangerous for children, elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

What do I do?

For starters, quit drinking tap water on a regular basis. You will realize after not drinking the water for an extended period, when you go back and drink it again it will smell like chlorine and will have a bad taste. You need to immediately begin using water filters everywhere you go. Get some water filters for the house and for the refrigerator. When you are at work, traveling, or at the gym, make sure you get a water filter bottle. These personal water filters can be filled up with ordinary tap water and the filter inside will filter your water as you drink.

As many of you already know, the Brita Fill & Go Bottle has been off the market for years now. While it claimed to be a great product, the development and design of the product was not well thought out. The old Brita Filter Bottle is now near impossible to find and the replacement filters are even more difficult to locate. The good news is water filter bottles and other personal water filters are now extremely popular and can be found in thousands of local stores and on the internet.

Brita Filter Bottle

At one time, Brita carried a “Fill & Go” bottle which was their version of a water bottle filter. This Brita Filter Bottle used a basic carbon block filter which removed chlorine and odors from the water making it taste much better.

The Brita Bottle is currently not in production and not available from Brita anymore. They have decided to discontinue selling the product in the United States. There are many other water filter bottles on the market whereby you can gain the same quality filtration in a portable unit.
